Got P.R.I.D.E?
The Tahquitz High School Cheer Squad has had a long two weeks to think about mistakes that were made in Vegas as they placed a distant third from rival Beaumont. THS is known for technical routines and takes calculated risks which set them apart from competitors. Vegas saw Varsity make some mistakes that we could not overcome.
Over the last two weeks, THS Cheer has conducted a "gut check" and came out blazing at today's APU competition. Both JV and Varsity nailed flawless routines: Varsity scoring a 95 (broke school record) and JV stealing the show. Both took home the title of "Grand Champions" and set the stage for next year. Parent Link from Dr. Roe: Argument for Closed Campus
Parent Link to Parents: April 25, 2012 5:15 p.m.
Attention Tahquitz Parents: Good Evening, I am making this phone call to you tonight regarding a major concern that I have related to the safety of our students. Tahquitz has had an Open Campus policy since my arrival. Seniors, who meet certain expectations, are allowed to leave for lunch. After observing this policy in action, I believe it is not in the best interest of Tahquitz nor our student safety. As your Principal, there is an expectation from our parents that my first job is to ensure the safety of our students. When students are allowed leave during lunch and are not on campus, I cannot ensure their safety. This is a major concern of mine as I view my students no different than my own kids. Students do not have sufficient time to leave Tahquitz, retrieve food and get back in a timely manner. As a result, students have been truant, ticketed for speeding and have put themselves and others at risk. Lastly, in order to get to most of the restaurant options in town, they are speeding past our neighboring elementary and middle school. I cannot, in good conscience, continue to allow this to occur. Your child’s safety is too important to me. I am proposing closing our campus to lunch release from hereon out. In my communication with law enforcement, parents and students, I believe this to be the right course of action. If you have any concerns, considerations or comments regarding closing our campus, please contact me on Facebook “Tahquitz High School’s Principal’s Forum” or on our Website under “Contact Us.” Thank you for your time. I look forward to working with you in ensuring the safety and well being of your child. Michael John Roe, Principal, THS |

Bring Your Own Device
In 2012-2013 Tahquitz High School will take the next step in reaching out to students and teachers regarding the use of technology on campus as well as at home. As the California Common Core inches towards us quickly, students will need to be able to demonstrate their technological competencies at high levels as they prepare for life-long learning.
Part of this delivery model will address the current electronics policy that was put in place when THS opened. Dr. Roe is looking to remove the current policy in favor of promoting students and their use of technology on campus. "From polling in the classroom to 'texting' responses, phones can become a huge tool in a students education within the classroom by providing the teacher with timely feedback," Roe asserted. |

Setting Goals for Student Success

Tahquitz Community,
During the 2011-12 school year, our attention was given to creating systems and structures to support our strategic vision:
1. Excellence in every classroom;
2. Shared leadership opportunities for all stakeholders; and
3. Create systems and structures to support problem solving and organizational capacity.
I am excited to report that Tahquitz made great progress in all of these areas that sets the focus and tone for this year. Our focus this year will be on increasing student achievement across all performance bands looking specifically at each student and tailoring instruction to advance students towards proficiency. All core departments will continue to tighten up their common formative assessments and target instruction in areas where students need the most help.
This "surgical" approach will ensure that students gain the prerequisite skills to master standards and increase their performance levels on the CST. My staff will be working relentlessly to improve student results by delivering state of the art instruction through engaging curriculum.
To view our action plan for student success, please click on the image above. Our action plan continues to develop and tighten as we grow as a professional learning community. Please contact me with any concerns/considerations/ideas that you may have. We welcome our entire community in this process. On behalf of my leadership team and teachers, we are thankful that you have entrusted us in your child's education. With your help, this will be a year to remember!
